While Compaq offers the R3000 series with several configurations, show our test machine for this review, an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz and 512 MB of DDR PC2700. Our 15.4-inch widescreen model, a 4200RPM Hitachi 40GB hard drive, ATI Radeon 9000 integrated graphics and an internal Broadcom 802.11b / g mini-PCI. Compaq sells the R3000 series with Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, or how our system was configured withWindows XP Pro
The 15.4-inch WXGA TFT wide screen running with a native resolution 1280x800. Compaq offers the R3000 with the WSXGA + (1680x1050) and WUXGA (1920x1200), options, and a new "BrightView" WXGA screen version, which will provide a high contrast image.
Rounded corners give the black and sliver Presario R3000 a sleek look that is durable for a couple of months of use. Top and bottom of the computer are made of black plastic withthe middle section, including the keyboard and palm rest, finished in a thin silver plastic feeling. The bottom of the housing has a rubber foot in each of the four corners and edges, presumably to help heat dissipation.
The choice of a different design from that of other portable computers, Compaq has most of the expansion ports and interfaces on both sides of the machine, rather than on the back. Who's got a computer or turn around to get complicatedbehind it in a USB Compaq appreciate the choice of design here. Doors only on the back of the computer are the legacy devices - one VGA monitor port, one parallel port and a modem. Although we had no use for it, we were happy to see a parallel port, because many new laptops do not contain, but many people and businesses do not have only parallel printer.
